Information To Help Make the Right Decisions About Permanent Hair Removal, Laser Hair Removal and Temporary Hair Removal
- The absolute requirement for laser hair removal is that one's hair must be darker than surrounding skin. A client I would not treat is someone with tan skin and light hair.
- Melanin is the color of skin and hair. The concentration of melanin in the hair follicle is much greater than in the epidermis.
- It is very important to have a cooling method on the laser. The skin has a greater surface area than the hair follicle and will therefore cool faster. By using cooling before, during or right after the pulse of the laser the skin is comforted and protected. This will reduce the temperature of the skin surface, allowing more energy to be applied safety to the hair follicle.
- I believe in protecting the skin's surface by applying Microclysmic gel quickly after laser treatment. Microclysmic gel provides the ultimate moisturization to the skin surface and drops the skin surface temperature anywhere from 8 to 12 degrees within three minutes, preventing tissue damage and hypo or hyper-pigmention issues. It is a great extra method of protection.
- Electrology is the only 100% form of permanent hair removal.
- Laser hair removal permanently removes anywhere from 40 to 80+ percent of targeted colored hair.
- If you are light skinned and have brown or black hair the Alexandrite laser is a great choice of laser to use.
- If you are dark skinned, skin type 5 or 6, then the Yag 1064 would be the correct laser to choose.
- Mainly genetics and hormones will determine the color, location, length, thickness and growth rate of the hair.
- Shaving has NO EFFECT on hair growth.
- Always check the credentials and laser training certifications of your chosen practicioner. Look for an electrologist with years of experience and Florida required training. This will help to ensure that you are being safety treated by someone that truly knows everything necessary for a great outcome.
- In order to be certified in the state of Florida, an electrologist must be certified as a clinical as well as a medical electrologist. After mastering those two certifications, the electrologist is required to go to laser college. In addition, it is necessary to recertify every five years as well as maintain continuing education of 20 credits bi-annually.
- As people age the hair growth continues. But where it grows is not always the happiest of places.
- The Board of Electrology requires each laser performing electrologist to inspect and service their lasers every six months.
- Doctors, PA's and Nurse Practitioners who perform laser hair removal in Florida are not required to have training in hair and hair removal. They are also not required to have their lasers serviced and inspected every six months.
- In Florida only licensed cosmetologists are permitted to wax. Always check for waxing training.
Example: A client purchased a brazilian wax by a new operator who ripped the thin skin of that area. If waxing is done incorrectly it can cause burns, ingrown hairs and welts. Training is necessary to perform safe and successful treatments.
- Laser or Electrology works only on hair that is the active growth cycle. Another name for the active stage is called Anagen stage.
- The Anagen stage can last anywhere from three months up to several years.
